New criteria for a ring to have a semisimple left quotient ring
Goldie’s Theorem (1960), which is one of the most important results in Ring Theory, is a criterion for a ring to have a semisimple left quotient ring. The aim of the paper is to give four new criteria (using a completely different approach and new ideas). The first one is based on the recent fact that for an arbitrary ring R the set M of maximal left denominator sets of R is a non-empty set [2]...
متن کاملThe classical left regular left quotient ring of a ring and its semisimplicity criteria
Let R be a ring, CR and ′CR be the set of regular and left regular elements of R (CR ⊆ ′CR). Goldie’s Theorem is a semisimplicity criterion for the classical left quotient ring Ql,cl(R) := C −1 R R. Semisimplicity criteria are given for the classical left regular left quotient ring ′Ql,cl(R) := ′C −1 R R. As a corollary, two new semisimplicity criteria for Ql,cl(R) are obtained (in the spirit o...
متن کاملImplicit Renewal Theory and Power Tails on Trees
We extend Goldie’s (1991) Implicit Renewal Theorem to enable the analysis of recursions on weighted branching trees. We illustrate the developed method by deriving the power tail asymptotics of the distributions of the solutions R to R D = N ∑ i=1 CiRi + Q, R D = ( N ∨ i=1 CiRi ) ∨Q, and similar recursions, where (Q,N,C1, C2, . . . ) is a nonnegative random vector with N ∈ {0, 1, 2, 3, . . . } ...
متن کاملThe Quest for Quotient Rings (Of Noncommutative Noetherian Rings)
Articles on the history of mathematics can be written from many different perspectives. Some aim to survey a more or less wide landscape, and require the observer to watch from afar as theories develop and movements are born or become obsolete. At the other extreme, there are those that try to shed light on the history of particular theorems and on the people who created them. This article belo...
متن کاملMotivating Emotional Content
Among philosophers of the emotions, it is common to view emotional content as purely descriptive – that is, belief-like or perception-like. I argue that this is a mistake. The intentionality of the emotions cannot be understood in isolation from their motivational character, and emotional content is also inherently directive – that is, desire-like. This view’s strength is its ability to explain...
